Peter Harley Remembrance Day & Charity Event for Shooting Star Children's Hospice, Sunday 18th July
Dear Surrey Section Members, OMG what a year we have had! Let’s hope we can all get together very soon we are missing you all. Keep an eye on the Section website and Henry’s emails for updates on future events. As you all know our Christmas Lunch is our major event of the year where we raise money for our nominated charity. This year we were raising money for our dearest departed friend and member Peter Harley in his memory. So, I have decided to hold our major charity event of the year on the 18th July 2021 in Peter’s memory. Peter Harley Remembrance Day is to be held at Woldingham school where I am asking you to give up your day Sunday 18th July 2021 I have planned to all meet up at the school in all types of classic cars including Rolls Royce and Bentleys with or without seat belts. Already committed have AC cobra replica Riley, Morgan, TR6 etc . Hopefully some McLaren cars and other sports cars and hopefully an army truck. All this is for Shooting Star Children’s hospice. We plan to take the children’s parents and siblings out for a drive in the grounds of the estate (it’s about 2 mile drive as you go through the gates to the school Manor House). So probably won’t have to go out onto the main roads unless you want to take them further. We are arranging a barbecue and soft drinks for everyone and entertainment for the children (Singer and Magician) for everyone. Our newest committee member Denise Earwicker’s daughter Faye is head of events at the school and has waived their cost of hire so we only have to pay for the barbecue per head. In attendance will be heads of care from Shooting Star Children’s hospice, parents, the children and their siblings. Obviously with all the cost of the barbecue and entertainment etc still going to come to a lot of money to put this event on plus we want to give the hospice a donation on the day. I have received and been promised some money from some members already. Only if you want to, any help or donations to give to these poor unfortunate children and parents and make it a day to remember our friend and fellow RREC Section member, to present a cheque to the hospice on the day. The cheque will be presented by Peter's wife Mrs Vivian Harley in his memory. This email will be a surprise to Vivian and hope we can make it her day as well.
